Frequently Asked Questions

Q:

Can I use my insurance?

A:

I am not an in-network provider for any insurance companies. I am considered an out-of-network provider for most PPO plans. This means that you would pay the full fee at or before the time of your appointment, and I will provide you with a "superbill" which you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. I recommend that you contact your insurance company prior to the start of treatment and ask about the amount of your deductible and what percentage of behavioral health services they will reimburse you.

Q:

What should I expect in my first session?

A:

After reviewing the consent form, limits of confidentiality, and treatment agreements, the rest of the session will be spent exploring what brought you into therapy, performing an initial intake assessment, and setting your treatment goals.  It is possible that the assessment period may span a couple of sessions to ensure that we create a tailored and collaborative treatment plan.

Q:

How long will therapy last?

A:

Treatment length may vary for each person, depending on their goals and practice of skills outside of sessions.  Most of the evidence-based treatments used at Wandner Health and Wellness are designed to be effective within 8-15 sessions.  We will continuously evaluate your progress towards your goals, and your comfort with treatment, to make sure that that your therapeutic needs are being met.

Q:

A:

Will therapy take my pain away?

Finding a way out of pain is a very common desire for people who are considering starting therapy to manage chronic pain. Unfortunately, psychotherapy cannot eliminate or directly treat chronic physical pain.  Rather, the goal of therapy is to help you increase your functioning and live a better quality of life despite the pain.  People often describe pain as the driving factor in their life. The goal of chronic pain psychotherapy is to give people tools so that they can feel that pain does not drive their lives but rather is in the passenger seat, backseat, or maybe even the trunk of the car.

Q:

How do you pronounce your last name?

A:

I get this question a lot! My name is pronounced Wand-ner. It's like magic wand + ner.
